Minot Air Force Base is homes to the 5th Bomb Wing and the 91st Missile Wing. The 5th Bomb Wing is responsible for all base services including medical and housing. The 91st Missile Wing maintains the on-site Minuteman III nuclear missiles. The land around Minot was designated as a new Minuteman ICBM complex in 1963. It is one of only three remaining units that handle intercontinental ballistic missiles, and is one of the only remaining bases to operate B-52s. Minot Air Force Base has quality on-post housing for military personnel with over 2,400 family housing units. The base offers the largest number of housing units available in the United States Air Force. In order to fill out a housing application for on post housing, call 701-723-4661. The housing office maintains a list of all homes for rent or for sale off-post. The basic allowance for housing for quarters with “dependent rate” who have not requested housing prior to arrival may apply when they check in at the housing office. Many two-story units are offered with two, three and four bedrooms. Duplexes and split-level homes with a combination living and dining room are also available. Kitchens, dishwashers and washer/dryer hookups are also included.
The Minot Child Development Center provides child centered curriculum for children from 6 weeks thru 6 years. Family Child Care offers in-home day care for children from birth to 12 years of age. The center is an accredited program that focuses on creative classroom and home environment activities. Providers also offer care for weekends, evenings and before and after school. There is a sliding fee scale based on family income. Enrollment packages are available by calling 701-723-2838. There are no schools on base at Minot Air Force Base. The Minot Public school system operates 11 elementary schools in the city. There are two middles schools, and base children will be bused during winter months. The Minot High School is split into two campuses to accommodate the two areas of town where residents may live off post.
